The service for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Children is part of the Special Educational Needs Support Service based at the Heath View Centre Eastmoor Wakefield
They are a team of qualified Teachers of Deaf Children and Educational Support Workers who provide educational support in a variety of settings for children and young adults with a hearing loss.
This support is offered from pre-school through to post 16. They support over 250 children in pre-school settings, mainstream schools and resourced provision.
The service aims to make the most of linguistic academic and social progress through early intervention, on-going support and the provision of technical aids.
The majority of children attend their local mainstream school with varying amounts of support according to need. For some children an inclusive mainstream education is offered in a school
supported by a resource base. A few children are placed out of district in schools for deaf children.
